New Haven police said 911 callers reported hearing gunshots at 8:30 p.m. in the East Rock neighborhood. One person was found fatally shot, they said.
Salovey confirmed the victim’s identity and said his staff had been in touch with Jiang’s family. “I wish to convey to them and to all others who loved Kevin my sincere condolences,” Salovey said. “Kevin was an extraordinary young man.”
Salovey said the School of the Environment would hold a community gathering later Sunday and would plan additional memorials to Jiang that would be posted on the school’s website.
Police have made no arrests in the shooting.
