East Wareham woman charged with robbing store with needle she claimed was ‘infected with AIDS’

An East Wareham woman was arrested Monday evening for allegedly robbing two convenience stores with a needle she claimed was “infected with AIDS.”
Raynham police charged Ashley Demers, 34, after getting a 911 call for a robbery at a Seasons Corner Market at a gas station along New State Highway. The caller gave the license plate of the woman’s vehicle after she allegedly robbed the store.
Massachusetts State Police matched the same vehicle to a similar robbery in New Bedford. State police found and arrested Demers in Marion after a short highway chase. She crashed into a police cruiser, according to NBC Boston, and she likely faces additional charges for motor vehicle infractions.
Demers was booked in Dartmouth and was expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Taunton or New Bedford District Court.
