Whispered 911 call for help results in arrest of South End home invasion suspect

“I will be grateful to the end of my days, for the safe outcome and arrest of the intruder."

When a South End resident called police early Saturday evening, he was only able to whisper to a dispatcher about the alleged break-in taking place within his home. But it was enough for the dispatcher to pick up on what was going on, and get an address, according to police. The result was the arrest of a suspect who is not only facing breaking and entering-related charges, but had 22 outstanding warrants on felony and misdemeanor charges out of Boston, Somerville and Cambridge, authorities said.Police were called to the Chandler Street home around 4:53 p.m. on Saturday, they said, and when they arrived, saw the suspect leaving the residence. Authorities recognized him as someone who had outstanding warrants. The suspect allegedly gave officers a fake name; they detained him.The alleged victim told authorities the suspect shoved him onto the floor of the foyer, and locked the front door. The suspect then had the resident go into the living room of the home, and the victim said the suspect “appeared distressed and agitated.” Soon afterward, the resident was able to call 911, according to officials. The suspect was arraigned in Boston on charges of assault and battery on a victim over 65, unarmed breaking and entering (nighttime), disturbing the peace, disorderly person, and providing a false name to a police officer, police said. The victim wrote police a letter after the incident, thanking them for their help.“I will be grateful to the end of my days, for the safe outcome and arrest of the intruder,” he wrote. “I am also, most grateful, for the 911 dispatcher who heard my whispering cry for help that brought all of you so quickly.”
