A Sherborn father was fatally struck by an SUV while in a yard. The driver has been arraigned.

A Mansfield man who allegedly struck and killed a Sherborn father in a yard while driving drunk has been arraigned.Meanwhile, those close to the victim, Kevin Sullivan, 40, are raising money for his wife and their 11-month-old daughter.Joshua M. Patel, 37, is being charged with motor vehicle homicide by operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, assault and battery, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and a marked lanes violation, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office in a press release. His bail was set at $20,000 Thursday, and Patel is prohibited from driving, as well as drinking, and must submit to random alcohol screenings if released. He also must stay away from witnesses. He’s set to appear in court again on Dec. 3.Authorities say they were called to Goulding Street East in Sherborn around 4:42 p.m. Wednesday for a serious pedestrian crash. Via investigation, officials believe Patel had been speeding eastbound when he lost control, went off the westbound side of the road, struck Sullivan, and then continued on the lawn and hit a parked vehicle.Patel allegedly attempted to leave the scene but was stopped by witnesses. Authorities say he was allegedly “uncooperative.” He was arrested. Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene. When Sullivan died, he left his wife, Jennifer, and their baby, Adelynn, according to the GoFundMe page. Sullivan was in his mother’s front lawn at the time of his death.“Kevin would do anything for the people he loved and brought joy to everyone [he] met,” the fundraising page says. “His friends and family are shattered by this loss.” Donations made are planned to help with Sullivan’s funeral expenses, as well as care for Adelynn. The fundraiser had received over $6,800 with a stated goal of $50,000 by around 4 p.m. on Thursday.
