Brockton sisters escape alleged attempted kidnapping

A Brockton 10-year-old is OK after her 15-year-old sister helped fend off a potential kidnapper Monday morning.Ganae Powell was walking with her sister, Kayana, near Union Cemetery on Monday. The two had been out to buy eggs, according to WBZ.“This man just came and he just hugged me like that and he said he wasn’t going to hurt me,” Ganae told the news station.That’s when Kayana said she yelled at the man, later identified by police as Reynaldo Perez, to not touch her sister, and the two girls took off running. They saw a neighbor, who called police, according to WBZ.Perez, 52, who lives in Brockton, was arrested soon afterward. He’s being charged with kidnapping of a child and assault and battery, according to police.Valencia Powell, the girls’ grandmother, said she’s relieved her granddaughters are OK.“I’m so thankful to God,” Powell told WBZ. “I wouldn’t know where I’d be if she wasn’t standing here right now.”
