Suspect arrested after report of attempted rape in Boston Public Garden

A man accused of attempting to rape a woman early Monday in the Boston Public Garden was arrested Tuesday morning, according to police.Luan Maxwell, 30, of Boston, was arrested around 9:45 a.m. and was expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on a charge of assault with intent to rape.Boston police said in a statement that the woman told detectives she was walking in the park around 6 a.m. on Monday when a man approached her and placed his hand over her mouth, making “sexually explicit threats and attempting to remove an article of clothing” she was wearing.According to the department, the woman was able free herself and run to safety.Maxwell was arrested on Harrison Avenue after officers received information about his location and saw him walking on Boylston Street toward Washington Street, police said.Attorney information for Maxwell was not immediately available.
