A 20-year-old woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly threw an iced coffee into a car during a road rage incident, hitting a 2-year-old and cutting his face, in Barnstable.

On Wednesday, a woman called Barnstable police around 12:51 p.m. to report that another woman, operating a Jeep Liberty, “had been ‘riding her bumper’ and ‘laying on her horn’ while yelling at her,” on Route 28 in Centerville, police said in a press release.

The assailant then allegedly threw her cup of iced coffee into the woman’s vehicle, hitting her toddler son in the face while he was asleep in his carseat.

After the incident, the victim drove to the police station, and members of the Hyannis Fire Department treated her son for a bloody nose and a cut on his face from where he was hit by the coffee cup, the release said.

“Upon further investigation, Officer Bralia Roy observed coffee to be splattered all over the rear seat of the victim’s vehicle and the iced coffee cup was located on the floor of the car,” police said in the release.

Police soon contacted Emma Silva, a resident of Marstons Mills, a village within Barnstable, via investigation. When Silva went to the police station, the victim identified her, according to police.
