2 windows with Black Lives Matter signs displayed smashed in Beacon Hill

The incidents were reported to police Saturday morning.

Two Beacon Hill homes displaying Black Lives Matter signs in their windows had bricks thrown through them over the weekend.Boston police were first called to 53 Garden St. around 9:36 a.m. Saturday for a report of vandalism. There, officers spoke with the person who had called police. She said the window, which had a Black Lives Matter sign in it, had been “smashed with a brick,” according to the police report. The caller told police she had “heard a commotion” around 10 p.m. Friday, but didn’t notice the broken window until the following morning, the report says. Then, around 11 a.m., police were sent to nearby 88 Myrtle St. for a report of vandalism. An officer spoke with a person on scene, who said a front window had been smashed sometime overnight. Police also saw a Black Lives Matter sign in that smashed window.Boston police are continuing to investigate what happened, according to Sgt. John Boyle, a spokesman for the department, in an email to Boston.com. He said no arrests had been made, and, if anyone has information, they’re encouraged to call police.Dr. Robbie Goldstein, who is challenging incumbent Congressman Stephen Lynch, said in a news release that lawn signs for his campaign were left at each of the vandalized locations. Boston police don’t have a record of this, Boyle said.“Windows were smashed and left behind in the broken glass were signs from my campaign,” Goldstein said. “These actions are cowardly. These actions are rooted in hate. These actions are unacceptable. And, these actions are in no way connected with my campaign for Congress.”
