Officials are urging Boston residents impacted by violence to contact the city’s trauma team. Here’s what they do.
A 31-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries early Tuesday morning when he was shot on a Roxbury street, prompting an officer on patrol to open fire on suspects who fled the scene, police say.
Authorities said the officer heard several gunshots around 1:30 a.m. and saw three suspects leaving in a vehicle when he responded to Waumbeck Street, WCVB reports.
Police pursued the men by vehicle to Codman Park, where the chase continued on foot, according to the news station.
There, the officer fired his gun, police said. No one was injured.
Firearms found at the park were seized by authorities, the outlet reports. The three men were also taken into custody, but no charges had been announced later Tuesday morning.
The victim, who has not been identified, was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was brought to a hospital with serious injuries, according to the station.
The shooting comes amid a string of violence that’s rocked Boston in recent weeks, including on Sunday, when two teens were shot and killed in Mattapan and, hours later, another was injured in a Roxbury shooting.
“We continue to say this: We definitely have to pull together and stop this endless violence,” Police Commissioner William Gross told reporters Tuesday.
