The operator of the minivan has been charged.

Donald and Kayla Magoon.

A 43-year-old Holland man died and his 15-year-old daughter suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday when a minivan allegedly crossed the centerline and struck the motorcycle they were riding on head on.

Now, the minivan driver is facing charges that include motor vehicle homicide, according to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.

First responders were called to the area near 131 East Brimfield-Holland Road in Brimfield around 3 p.m. for a report of a crash, the district attorney’s office said in a news release.

There, motorcyclist Donald Magoon was pronounced dead, while his daughter, Kayla Magoon, was brought to UMass Medical Center-University via medical helicopter for injuries that appeared to be life-threatening, the release said.

The driver of the minivan, Michael Frank, 57, also of Holland, was found to have what looked like minor injuries, according to the release. Authorities believe Frank’s minivan went over the centerline and crashed into the motorcycle head on before striking a telephone pole. Both Donald and Kayla Magoon were thrown off the motorcycle as a result.

An arrest warrant was issued Monday from Palmer District Court for Frank. He’s being charged with motor vehicle homicide resulting from negligent or reckless operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation. Frank was arraigned, and bail was set at $10,000 on the condition that he doesn’t operate a vehicle if he’s released. He’s scheduled to return to court on Aug. 13, authorities said.
