Woman faces gun charges after shooting dog in Springfield she says attacked her

The incident happened Sunday outside a home on the 100 block of Leyfred Terrace.

A woman was arrested on gun charges Sunday after she shot and killed a dog that she says attacked her outside a Springfield home, according to authorities.Two dogs reportedly attacked the woman around 2:45 p.m. at a house on the 100 block of Leyfred Terrace, Springfield police spokesman Ryan Walsh said.The woman, who was taken to a hospital with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries, shot and killed one of the dogs during the incident while the other dog was uninjured, Walsh said.Police arrested the woman after learning she was licensed to carry a firearm in Georgia but not in Massachusetts, he added.Walsh said both dogs were on Springfield Animal Control’s dangerous list and had previously been reported for biting someone.Animal control was continuing to investigate the incident.
