A New York man had an unusual strategy for avoiding a Mass. speeding ticket. It ‘did not work.’

The man had no active license and had been clocked driving 96 mph, Massachusetts State Police said.

A New York man was issued a criminal citation after he reportedly dropped his ID down a storm drain, hoping to avoid identification when Massachusetts State Police pulled him over for going 96 mph. 

Police said in a tweet that they stopped the man in Central Mass. as part of their Open Roads Speed Enforcement Initiative on Friday, when troopers made 47 traffic stops and issued 44 citations and warnings.

Two drivers were cited for going 101 mph and 104 mph, while 19 others were stopped for going over 90 mph. 

One of them, troopers said in the tweet, was a New York man who had no active license.

“He dropped his ID down a storm drain thinking it would prevent Troopers from identifying him, but it did not work,” state police said. “He was issued a criminal citation for unlicensed operation.”
