Plympton man arrested after police chase ends with car in Plymouth Harbor

The 39-year-old driver, Ryan Reilly, drove onto a boat ramp and then straight into the water, police said.

A Plympton man was arrested after reportedly leading Plymouth police on a chase and submerging the car he was driving into Plymouth Harbor early Wednesday morning. Police said they received a call just before midnight, alleging that the 39-year-old, Ryan Reilly, had stolen his mother’s car.  Officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull Reilly over before he allegedly drove off. Minutes later, police said they pursued the car again on Water Street.Reilly reportedly fled the scene, driving onto a nearby boat ramp and then straight into the water. Plymouth police said he then extracted himself from the vehicle, swam ashore, and began charging at officers to attack them. Police used a stun gun to subdue Reilly before arresting him. He was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital where authorities said he was discharged without injuries. Reilly is now facing a slew of charges, including failure to stop for police, driving with license revoked as a habitual traffic offender, malicious damage to a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, trespassing, since the boat ramp was closed, and driving a car without authority.A local towing company was expected to pull the car out of the harbor when low tide hit around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, police added.
