Nurse’s stolen vehicle recovered, but her PPE was not inside

The vehicle of a nurse practitioner that was stolen in Dorchester has been located and an arrest made, but her personal protective equipment was not found inside.It was around 10:50 a.m. Monday when an officer working a paid detail near the Stop and Shop at 460 Blue Hill Ave. spotted a blue Mazda matching the description of the one belonging to Molly MacKay, who works at the Boston Hope field hospital and had reported her vehicle stolen Sunday morning. The officer was able to determine via further information that it was, in fact, her vehicle, and there was no one in it at the time, according to Sgt. John Boyle, a Boston police spokesman.The officer called for backup, and a male got into the vehicle. Responding police then surrounded it, Boyle said.Troy Handy, 31, who is reportedly homeless and stays at the 112 Southampton St. shelter, is being charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, larceny of a motor vehicle, and operating after his license was suspended, according to Boyle.Police found the keys to the vehicle in one of his pockets, Boyle said. They also found a driver’s license and credit cards that were reportedly stolen.What they didn’t find was MacKay’s PPE.MacKay reported the Mazda stolen at 11:15 a.m. Sunday from 155 King St., Dorchester, Boyle said.The Dorchester resident said the vehicle was stolen from her driveway. She told 7 News she keeps her PPE in the vehicle so she doesn’t have to bring it inside her home.“At a time when we should all be coming together, and just to think people are still doing things like this to each other,” MacKay said in an interview with the news station. “It’s disheartening and you really feel violated.”
