Boston police arrest Springfield man for allegedly shooting at person in Mattapan
Officers said they received a report describing a man who was wearing red pants and “actively shooting at a person.”
Authorities say they’ve arrested a Springfield man who was “actively shooting at a person” in Mattapan Sunday afternoon, according to a news release.
Deandre Ballard, 25, was arrested Sunday after Boston police responded to the incident around 3:55 p.m. in Mattapan, near Gladeside Avenue and Cragmere Terrace, according to a news release.
While driving to the area, officers said they received a report describing a man who was wearing red pants and “actively shooting at a person.”
As police arrived on scene, they reportedly saw Ballard, who matched the description of the suspect, running toward 76 Gladeside Ave., where he entered the home’s backyard and tossed a gray metallic object over a fence, they said.
“Officers instructed the suspect to lay on the ground, to which he initially refused,” police said in a news release. “Eventually the suspect complied and was placed in handcuffs.”
As authorities searched the area, they reportedly found a gray and black firearm behind the home’s back fence and recovered ballistic evidence in front of 15 Cragmere Terrace.
“A motor vehicle in the area also had ballistic damage,” police said.
Ballard will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for unlawful possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a house, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, and trespassing, among other charges.
