Man, 55, charged with murder in connection with fatal daylight stabbing of homeless man in Cambridge

Authorities say they’ve arrested a man in connection with the fatal daylight stabbing in Cambridge of a homeless man who was later found by a jogger.Jose Bermudez, 55, also a member of the city’s homeless population, was arrested Thursday. He’s being charged with murder and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the April 14 incident that left 33-year-old Danilo Perez dead, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office in a news release. Bermudez was arraigned in Cambridge District Court by telephone; he’s being held without bail and his next court date is set for June 25 via video conferencing.Authorities were called to Franklin Street for a man who had been stabbed. They believe that the incident happened near Green Street and Sidney Place around 5:18 p.m. The two men, who knew each other, reportedly had an argument, which “escalated” and Bermudez then allegedly stabbed Perez multiple times, according to the release.Perez reportedly fled the area, and was then found by the jogger on Franklin Street. A 911 call was made and Perez was brought to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said in the release.Officials were able to identify Bermudez as the suspect, and he was arrested by state police in Allston early Thursday morning. Detectives had seen him in the area on Wednesday.
