Attempted shooting on I-91 north in Springfield spurs investigation, closes highway

The car-to-car shooting happened around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, state police say.

A vehicle was reportedly struck by multiple gunshots while traveling between exits 9 and 10 on Interstate 91 northbound, state police said in a news releaseThe incident happened around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, on I-91 in the north end of Springfield where troopers said they found a disabled motor vehicle just before the exit 10 off-ramp. “Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was struck by multiple gunshots possibly fired from another vehicle as it traveled between Exits 9 and 10,” state police reported. “The vehicle was occupied by an adult male, who was not injured.”Troopers began a

rolling roadblock, slowing traffic down to temporarily remove other cars from the highway as they searched for evidence. Route 91 was reopened by mid-afternoon, police said.

While the investigation is ongoing, troopers determined there is no ongoing threat to public safety, according to the state police.
