Lack of inspection sticker leads state trooper to arrest in Mattapan
The 23-year-old driver had two active warrants out for his arrest.
A Massachusetts state trooper working a construction detail in Mattapan Saturday spotted a blue BMW sedan without an inspection sticker, and, when he looked up the license plate, he saw the car had possibly been involved in a shooting, police said in a news release.Trooper Dana Crovo pulled the car over just before 5 p.m. on Hannon Street and identified the driver as Darius Collins, 23, of Quincy, who reportedly had two active warrants out for his arrest.
Troopers reportedly requested a tow truck to remove his car from the road before they conducted an inventory, as per state police policy.
“During the inventory a Springfield XD5 .45 caliber pistol was located,” troopers said.
Police said Collins did not possess a license to carry.
He’s being charged with multiple offenses, including carrying a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card, possession of ammo without an FID card, improperly storing a firearm, not having a driver’s license in possession, and not having an inspection sticker.
Collins was reportedly arraigned Monday morning in Dorchester District Court.
