After investigation, Worcester police arrest victim for allegedly accidentally shooting self
The 26-year-old man is facing a number of charges.
After investigating a daytime shooting, Worcester police on Tuesday arrested the man who they found suffering from a gunshot wound the day before, according to a Worcester Police Department Facebook post.Police said they responded to a report of an assault with a dangerous weapon around 3:47 p.m. on Monday near 31 Elizabeth St., where they found 26-year old Tajawn Boutwell-Campbell, of Worcester, suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers provided him with medical aid until paramedics arrived, and he was ultimately transported to a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.As detectives investigated the shooting, police said Boutwell-Campbell gave different accounts of how the shooting played out — but evidence showed he accidentally shot himself in his vehicle.

After obtaining a search warrant to look through Boutwell-Campbell’s vehicle, police reported finding a handgun and ballistic evidence.
Boutwell-Campbell is facing the following charges: discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, improperly storing a firearm, receiving stolen property over $1,200, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a firearm’s identification card, and misleading a police investigation.
