After Maine State Police received reports on Sunday of a man chasing a woman into the woods in Arundel, they found out that the woman was allegedly being kidnapped, the man was trying to bring her to Canada, and that the same man had been charged with kidnapping her before.Stephen Pilson, 52, of Beverly, is now facing a variety of charges, including domestic assault, kidnapping (Class A), resisting arrest, operating under the influence, operating after receiving habitual offender status, and being a fugitive from justice. Pilson had been on probation for the prior kidnapping charges, and was not supposed to go near the victim under his conditions of release. This time, bail was set at $22,000 and Massachusetts placed a probation hold on him, according to Maine State Police on Facebook. It was around 3:40 p.m. that police heard of a black vehicle being driven “erratically” on the northbound side of the Maine Turnpike, police said. Twenty minutes later, police heard that the vehicle had pulled over on the highway and that a man, later identified as Pilson, was chasing a woman into the woods. He had bound her wrists with a scarf and was trying to bring her to Canada, according to police.“It was determined [that] Pilson was highly intoxicated, violent, homicidal and possibly suicidal,” police said. “He also had a revoked license out of Massachusetts.”Another person tried to help before police arrived on scene, and Pilson ran into the woods, police said. A K-9 unit began to track Pilson, and, after three-quarters of a mile, Pilson was found lying on the ground.“Pilson was given commands but was not compliant,” police said. “Dutch (the K-9) was deployed and apprehended him.”
