“The young man involved in this incident has been positively identified, and we are confident that there is no danger to the community as a result of this matter,” Police Chief David Scott said in a statement.

Officials said the man was “acquainted with” a resident of the home he showed up at. The man is not being identified at this time, and police did not indicate whether he will be charged.

The incident was reported when a man claiming to be an EMT arrived at a Pepperell home around 11 p.m. Saturday and said he was there for a “wellbeing check” on one of the residents.

He was wearing emergency medical apparel and said he was from Ayer-Shirley but “became increasingly nervous” as residents questioned why he was there and eventually left, police said.

Ayer-Shirley public safety officials, whom he said sent him to the house, confirmed it had not dispatched an EMT to that address.
