A mistrial has been declared in the murder trial of Tammie Galloway, who is accused of killing her 81-year-old neighbor in Needham in May 2017.
The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office said the mistrial was announced on Monday morning after defense attorney Elliot R. Levine told the court he was struck by a vehicle over the weekend; his injuries are believed to be serious, but not life-threatening, according to a news release. The jury, which has been dismissed, heard opening arguments and the beginning of testimony on Thursday. The trial was set to resume Monday after no proceedings on Friday.
A new trial has been scheduled for May, 12, 2020, according to the release. Galloway will remain held without bail.
Galloway is accused of killing Laura Shifrina, and taking her car, cellphone, wallet, and jewelry. She was charged with murder, armed robbery, home invasion, and larceny of a motor vehicle. She has pleaded not guilty.
Shifrina was found on May 31, 2017, in her apartment. She had suffered cuts to her neck, one of which cut her jugular vein, an autopsy found.
