Former Marblehead METCO director allegedly stole funds, used them for himself

The suspect's arraignment has yet to be scheduled.

The former director of Marblehead’s branch of the Metropolitan Council on Educational Opportunity stole about $20,000 of the organization’s money and used it for himself, two indictments from an Essex Grand Jury allege.Francois Fils-Aime, 47, of Randolph, pulled money from the Marblehead METCO Sunshine Fund, according to a news release from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. The money included annual dues from parents as well as donations from others.“The Marblehead School Department became aware of the bank account after not renewing the defendant’s contract in 2017 and organizations inquired to whom they should make their annual donation,” the release said.Fils-Aime’s arraignment has not been scheduled, according to the release.

METCO is a grant program funded by the state that is “intended to expand educational opportunities, increase diversity, and reduce racial isolation,” according to its website, by allowing students in urban schools to attend high school in higher-performing suburban school districts.
