Man facing attempted murder charge after allegedly slamming cruiser head-on with vehicle 3 times

The suspect faces a variety of charges, and could face more as the investigation is ongoing.

A 42-year-old Middleborough man is facing a variety of charges, including attempted murder with a motor vehicle, after he allegedly slammed the vehicle he was driving multiple times, head-on, into a Middleborough police cruiser Wednesday night.Along with the attempted murder charge, the suspect, who isn’t named in a news release from the police department, is being charged with possession of ammunition without a license, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, operating under the influence (second offense), negligent operation, failure to stop for police, attempting to commit a crime: larceny of a firearm, and attempting to commit a crime: larceny from a building. Police are continuing to investigate, and the man “will likely face additional charges,” police said. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Wareham District Court Thursday.Police were called to Wareham Street around 9:34 p.m. for a reported disturbance at a home, according to the release. The suspect allegedly fled when police showed up. Police then followed the man, and he drove into a parking lot about a mile from where the alleged disturbance was.“As the cruisers approached the vehicle, the suspect allegedly drove head-on into a cruiser, backed up, drove head-on into the cruiser a second time, backed up and drove head-on into the cruiser a third time,” police said. The man then got out of the car, and police arrested him. He was brought to a nearby hospital via ambulance. “The Middleborough officer that was in the cruiser that was struck suffered minor injuries and was transported to a different area hospital and has since been treated and released,” according to police.
