Man turns himself in after Fitchburg hit-and-run that left 71-year-old woman dead
Police said the driver initially fled the scene of the crash but then later surrendered to police.
A Fitchburg woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Halloween night. Mary Paulette Murphy was 71.
Murphy was walking around 6:30 p.m. Thursday near the Dufours RV Center on John Fitch Highway when she was struck by a vehicle, according to police. She was then taken to a local hospital where she died.
The driver of the car that struck Murphy fled the scene, police said, but later turned himself in. Scott Proctor, who is from Lunenburg, is now reportedly cooperating with the investigation.
Proctor faces the initial charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.
The case is under investigation and will be reviewed by the Worcester District Attorney’s office for potential additional charges, according to a release.
