Burlington woman who allegedly struck 4 children in Stoneham hit-and-run crash arraigned

A $1,000 cash bail was set for 30-year-old Stephanie DeTomasi, officials said.

A Burlington woman who allegedly hit four children in Stoneham with her car and then drove away earlier this month was arraigned Tuesday.

A Woburn District Court judge set a $1,000 cash bail for Stephanie DeTomasi, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

DeTomasi, 30, is charged with leaving the scene of personal injury, negligent operation, destruction of evidence, speeding, and leaving the scene of property damage, WBZ-TV reports.

She was ordered to refrain from driving, to remain drug and alcohol free, and to stay away from the victims and witnesses, officials said.

Her case is due back in court on Nov. 26, prosecutors said.

The Oct. 13 crash was allegedly caught on a surveillance camera, according to WBZ-TV.

Authorities said four children — all either 12 or 13 years old — were struck by “a dark-colored vehicle” near the intersection of Elm Street and MacArthur Road in Stoneham sometime before 6:38 p.m.

“The initial on-scene investigation found that a dark-colored Subaru Legacy was traveling westbound on Elm St. and struck four children that were standing with their bikes in front of a residence at the corner of MacArthur Road,” Stoneham police said in a statement released at the time. “The vehicle then struck a parked vehicle in the driveway.”

Witnesses told authorities that the suspect backed out of the driveway and drove off “while one of the children’s bicycles was lodged underneath the fleeing vehicle,” police said.

The four children involved were treated at the scene, and two were brought to a hospital with minor injuries.
