Brookline police looking for man who allegedly shoved and tried to rob woman while yelling ‘racial insults’

Police say the incident is being investigated as a hate crime.

Brookline police are looking for a man who reportedly shoved a woman to the ground and tried to take her backpack, while shouting “racial insults” at her and threatening further violence.

The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 1773 Beacon St., according to police, who said it’s being investigated as a hate crime. They declined to release the race of the woman.

The woman told officers that she had just parked on Dean Road when she was shoved from behind and fell to the ground. Her assailant fled, she said, after she began kicking and screaming. She described her attacker as a middle-age, 6-foot-tall black man with a medium build.
