“This remains an open and active investigation.”

Six to eight people are thought to have been involved in an incident of shots fired at a Plymouth condominium complex just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, and one person who was taken in for questioning has been released.Plymouth Police Chief Michael Botieri said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon that the person arrested was there when “several” shots were fired in the parking lot of the Algonquin Terrace housing complex, but didn’t fire a gun. He’s since been released.Meanwhile, police have identified two people believed to have been involved, and the chief said they’re known to the department. Authorities are attempting to identify others. Police have not received any reports of related injuries.“We’re currently following several leads in order to identify those involved,” Botieri said. “This remains an open and active investigation.”

When police originally arrived on scene, they saw one person running from the area and two others go into a nearby building. Another person was seen leaving a nearby Walgreens, and, when the store was searched, authorities found a piece of clothing and a handgun, according to the chief.

The incident unfolded when there was an altercation between two groups, and police don’t believe the shooting was random, Botieri said.

“We do not have any idea what the motive is at this point,” he said.

There wasn’t a hostage situation, and police didn’t have an early indication that what happened was gang related, though they were looking into it, according to Botieri.
