Cambridge man pulled over for heavily tinted windows, arrested for firearms, fentanyl offenses

Officers reportedly saw two people “frantically moving around the interior of the vehicle in such a way as if to suggest they were attempting to conceal something."

Police arrested a man on a slew of firearms charges Thursday after pulling him over for having excessively tinted windows.

Nicholson Nicolas, 21, of Cambridge was driving a gray vehicle on Howard Avenue in Roxbury when he was pulled over around 2 p.m., according to a release.

The windows of the car were so dark that officers reportedly couldn’t tell how many people were inside. When they approached, they saw two people “frantically moving around the interior of the vehicle in such a way as if to suggest they were attempting to conceal something,” the release said.

Police said the driver, Nicolas, was also shaking and breathing quickly when they talked to him. They believed he had a gun after noticing he “appeared to be extremely nervous” and was shielding the right side of his body.

The officers told Nicolas to get out of the car, but he refused, according to police. Then, he reportedly reached for something inside of his jacket.

Fearing Nicolas was armed, the officers drew their weapons and told him to show his hands. They then handcuffed him.

“That individual’s lucky nobody was seriously hurt,” one of the officers said, according to the release.

Police found a Glock 27 loaded with a 13-round high-capacity magazine on Nicolas and a bag of powder believed to be fentanyl.

He was charged with his second offense of unlawful possession of a firearm as well as carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a high capacity firearm, possession of a firearm in felony, and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. He was also cited for the excessive window tint.
