16-year-old charged in attack near Kendall that left woman blind in one eye
Isaias De La Rosa, of Cambridge, is facing a list of charges inducing armed assault with intent to murder.
A 16-year-old boy was arraigned in juvenile court Wednesday for an attack that officials say left a woman blind in one eye.
Isaias De La Rosa, of Cambridge, was charged with armed assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, mayhem, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, according to a release from the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office. He is being held without bail.
A 30-year-old woman was walking home on Loughrey Walkway from the Kendall Square MBTA station at about 10:40 p.m. on July 13 when she saw a boy she didn’t know on a BMX-style bicycle behind her, the release said.
She told officers she moved over so the boy would pass her, but instead he got off the bike and struck her in the back of the head with a sharp object.
The woman was talking on the phone at the time of the attack, officials said, and the man she was on the phone with called police when he heard her scream.
When police arrived, she was unconscious on the ground. Her left eye was swollen shut, according to the release, and she had cuts over her eye and on her forehead.
She was taken to an area hospital in serious condition and underwent multiple surgeries. The woman ultimately permanently lost vision in her left eye, the release said.
Police watched surveillance video from a nearby business and identified her attacker, an initial release from the Cambridge Police Department said.
While searching De La Rosa’s apartment, police said they found the bicycle used and clothing worn during the attack. The woman’s purse was also found in a nearby trash can.
De La Rosa also reportedly had a double-edged knife.
He was first arraigned on July 15. His next hearing is scheduled for October 23.
