Suspect allegedly hits trooper in the face, tries to grab gun during arrest in Roxbury

Police say the suspect "violently resisted" arrest and had to be pepper sprayed.

When state troopers attempted to arrest a man accused of stealing a vehicle early Wednesday morning in Roxbury, he allegedly hit a trooper in the head and attempted to grab the trooper’s gun, according to state police.Luis Llanso, 36, of Roxbury, was eventually arrested. He’s being charged with operating under the influence of drugs, assault and battery on a police officer causing serious injury, assault and battery on a police officer with the intent to disarm, receiving a stolen motor vehicle (subsequent arrest), failure to stop for police, resisting arrest, and operating after a license suspension. Llanso is scheduled to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on Wednesday, authorities said.It was around 4:22 a.m. that state police tried to stop the allegedly stolen Honda Civic Llanso was said to be driving on St. Alphonsus Street by Longwood Street. When Llanso allegedly didn’t stop, police began to pursue him, according to officials.At 4:24 a.m., Llanso allegedly took off on foot from the vehicle on McGreevey Way, police said. Officers caught up with him near 66 McGreevey Way.Llanso allegedly “violently resisted” his arrest, hitting an officer in the face; the officer reportedly received six stitches as a result. Llanso then attempted to grab the trooper’s gun, and authorities used pepper spray, according to state police.
