A man died, and a woman was allegedly held against her will in Lowell. Now a man is facing charges.

Police were called to the scene around 3 p.m. on Monday.

A 38-year-old man is facing a variety of charges after he allegedly attacked a man who lived on the first floor of a building on Queen Street in Lowell, and then allegedly assaulted a female tenant and held her against her will on Monday, according to authorities.

The male victim was found dead at the scene, according to police.

Hoeup Honn, 38, is being charged with aggravated rape, kidnapping, and assault and battery causing serious injuries. He’s scheduled for arraignment in Lowell District Court on Tuesday, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.

It was around 3 p.m. that state police assigned to the district attorney’s office responded to the scene after Lowell police reported a death they deemed suspicious, according to the release.

Authorities say the man and woman knew each other, and when she arrived home on Monday, she found the first-floor tenant, a man in his 50s, dead. Honn then allegedly forced her to stay in the home and allegedly assaulted her. Honn fell asleep, and the woman fled the home and used a neighbor’s phone to call law enforcement.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine how the male victim died; his identity has not been publicly released pending notification of next of kin, according to the release.

The investigation is continuing, and more charges could be filed, the release said.
