Former Harvard track coach sentenced for child porn possession

Walter Johnson, 71, was working as a Wellesley High School assistant track coach at the time of his arrest.

A former Harvard University track coach was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison and five of supervised release for possession of child pornography.

Walter Johnson, 71, was working as a Wellesley High School assistant track coach at the time of his arrest. He was fired as soon as authorities notified the school, according to a 2017 statement.

Johnson pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in June, according to the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s office. He was initially charged with both possession and distribution.

Johnson was arrested in January 2017 after an investigation into someone trading child porn on Craigslist led to him. Police searched his Framingham home and found images and videos of child porn on his computer and a hidden flash drive.
