State police said they had been searching for John Corbett, a Level 3 Sex Offender, for more than a year.

A man who was on state police’s most wanted sex offender list for more than a year is now in custody, after being arrested in Mexico, authorities said Tuesday.
State police said that 61-year-old John Corbett, who is classified as a Level 3 Sex Offender, was arrested in San Miguel De Allende last week. Corbett was placed on the most wanted list last September on a warrant out of Newton District Court charging him with failure to register as a sex offender, according to police. In 1990, Corbett was convicted of aggravated rape, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and breaking and entering for breaking into a Newton home the previous year and sexually assaulting a woman at knifepoint.
Police said a state trooper was able to determine and confirm the 61-year-old was living in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato. He was located by the U.S. Marshal’s Service and Mexican authorities “living in a container home in the countryside” on Friday.
He was arrested and immediately deported to Atlanta, Georgia, where he is being held as his return to Massachusetts is arranged, according to police.
