Hanson woman facing charges after allegedly stabbing 5 people in hotel parking lot
Two of the victims had to be hospitalized for what are thought to be serious injuries.
A Hanson woman is facing multiple charges after she allegedly stabbed five people at a Sharon hotel parking lot early Sunday morning, according to police.Police were called to the Best Western Plus hotel around 1:28 a.m. Sunday for a report of multiple stabbings, Sharon police said in a Facebook post. When police arrived, a tourniquet had to be quickly placed on one of the victims who was reportedly bleeding out, an action that “very well might have saved his life,” according to Deputy Chief Don Brewer. That victim and another male were hospitalized. Three others received medical attention and were later released.
According to police, Allison Maitland, 34, of Hanson, and a companion had words with a group of people after the couple were allegedly told to find a more private place. That led to the alleged attack, police said.
Maitland and her companion did not know the victims, police added.
“They weren’t guests there,” Brewer said of Maitland and her companion. “They just pulled in.”
Brewer said that while the initial report indicated a machete was involved, he said the weapon was more of a large buck knife.
“It was more slashing than stabbing,” he said.
Maitland was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. She was arraigned Monday in Stoughton District Court, police said. Maitland is being held without bail awaiting a dangerous hearing. She’s scheduled to return to court on Aug. 2.
Two victims were still hospitalized as of 9 a.m. Monday. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening, Brewer said.
