A man called police to report a robbery. He was then arrested for an earlier bank robbery.

When Boston police were called to take a report of a robbery near 441 Old Colony Ave. on Monday evening, officers soon realized that not only was the alleged robbery fake, but that the supposed victim was actually the suspect of a bank robbery in South Boston hours earlier, according to authorities.Eugene Davis, 54, of Chicago, was charged with armed robbery from the incident, police said. They also discovered that he had multiple warrants out, including one from Quincy District Court for larceny over $1,200 and one from West Roxbury District Court for aggravated assault, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery.Police were called to the East Boston Savings Bank at 501 Southampton St. around 1:08 p.m. Monday. The victim told officials that the suspect, who walked with a “distinct limp,” handed her a note demanding cash and stating that he also had a bomb with him, according to police. The victim handed money to the suspect, and he took off. Police were unable to find him.Then, around 6:35 p.m., police were called to the area near 441 Old Colony Ave. There, police talked with the apparent victim, who said he was attacked and robbed by a group while inside an apartment.“The victim, who walked with a distinct limp, refused medical treatment and stated he wanted a ride to Logan Airport so he could return to Chicago,” police said. “Detectives immediately recognized the victim to in fact be the suspect in the earlier bank robbery.”Davis was arrested, and police found the stolen money on him, according to authorities.
