Taunton man accused of assaulting his girlfriend captured in mother’s closet

The man also picked up a witness intimidation charge while police were booking him, authorities said.

A Taunton man suspected of punching his girlfriend in the face when she tried to break up with him about a week ago was captured when police found him hiding in a bedroom closet in his mother’s Taunton home on Wednesday, according to authorities.The man, 30, who remains unidentified publicly due to the domestic incident, faces charges stemming from two warrants — one includes firearm- and ammunition-related charges from March 24, the other is for domestic assault and battery, kidnapping, and aggravated assault and battery on May 21, police said.The suspect was supposed to appear in court recently for charges of unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm, giving a false identification to police, a firearm violation having committed three drug or violent crimes in the past, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. When he didn’t show up, a warrant was issued on May 13, according to police.Police pulled the vehicle over that the man was allegedly driving in Fall River back in March; they found a magazine with 10 hollow-point bullets, authorities said.Then, on May 21, Fall River police were called to a reported assault. They found the suspect’s girlfriend with her mouth bleeding; police later found her tooth on the front porch. She told police the man had allegedly punched her and wouldn’t let her leave, authorities said.State police, Taunton and Fall River police, plus U.S. Marshals Service deputies, investigated and tracked the man down at his mother’s house, according to police.While he was being booked by state police on Wednesday, a trooper allegedly overheard the man telling his girlfriend over the phone that “she ‘better say she fell down.’” The suspect then picked up a witness intimidation charge, authorities said.
