Peabody woman charged after police find van filled with 22 dogs and a parrot in Connecticut
Authorities made the discovery during a traffic stop, officials said.
A Peabody woman was arrested in Connecticut Monday after police found nearly two dozen dogs and a parrot inside her van, authorities said.
Suzanne Eser, 58, faces charges of animal cruelty and improper use of license and marker plate after officers made the discovery during a traffic stop, according to a statement posted on Facebook by the Wethersfield Police Department.
Around 9:30 a.m., police stopped Eser, who was behind the wheel of a Ford Transit van, for a motor vehicle violation, officials said.
Officers learned Eser lived in the van for several months and could see “several small dogs” in the front passenger area, according to authorities.
“Eventually, officers were able to gain access to the vehicle and discovered the van was covered in garbage and animal waste,” the statement says. “In total, 22 dogs and a Macaw were removed from the vehicle.”
The animals were brought to local shelters for evaluation, police said.
