Roxbury man charged after he and a police officer were struck during a foot pursuit

Wilfredo Burgos, 39, had multiple active warrants, police said.

A Boston police officer and a Roxbury man were both struck by a vehicle in Egleston Square after police say the man fled from the officer, who was attempting to place him under arrest.Wilfredo Burgos, 39, is facing charges of resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer, according to Boston police. Burgos also had multiple active warrants, including ones for receiving stolen property subsequent offense, larceny under $1,200, receiving a stolen credit card, receiving a lost credit card, unauthorized use of a credit card, and receiving an improper credit card, all out of Roxbury District Court; operating with a suspended license from Worcester District Court; and operating with a suspended license subsequent offense out of East Brookfield District Court.Police were called to 3084 Washington St. around 10:36 a.m. When they arrived, they found the officer on the ground. The officer told responders that he saw Burgos in the area and, knowing that he had multiple warrants, attempted to arrest him.“At this time, the suspect violently pulled away from the officer in an attempt to evade arrest and continued to flee away from the officer,” police said. “The officer gave chase across Washington Street and passed behind a large truck. At this time, both the officer and the suspect were struck by a motor vehicle traveling from Columbus Avenue towards School Street.”The officer sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries, while Burgos’s injuries were minor, according to police. They were both taken to local hospitals.The driver involved stayed on scene and hasn’t received a citation, police said.
