Suspect and Somerville officer exchange gunfire during Davis Square bank robbery
The suspect remained at large early Wednesday afternoon.
A man attempting to rob Middlesex Federal Savings in Somerville’s Davis Square Wednesday morning “fired off a round” while entering the bank and then exchanged gunfire with a responding city officer, Somerville Police Chief David Fallon told reporters. No one was hit, an official told The Boston Globe.

One person was taken into custody shortly after the incident, state police said on Twitter at 10:45 a.m. However, that person was later cleared, the Globe reported, and the suspect, who fled on foot, remained at large early Wednesday afternoon, according to the city.

“Residents in the area use caution, stay indoors if possible,” Somerville police said on Twitter at 12:13 p.m. “Report suspicious activity to [Somerville police].”
State police initially reported the incident at 10:16 a.m., and the MBTA’s Davis Square station was temporarily closed.
