Uber driver accused of rape held on $100,000 bail

The Uber driver accused of raping a female passenger in Boston was arraigned on Monday and held on $100,000 bail, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.Daudah Mayanja, 37, of Waltham, was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with two counts of rape, state police said.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have put a detainer on Mayanja, who’s a Ugandan citizen, according to state police.
Police were called to Storrow Drive near the Hatch Shell in Boston around 1:15 a.m. Saturday. Possible evidence was taken by a state police chemist and crime scene services personnel, police said.
Mayanja was taken to the Brighton barracks for booking and then held at the Boston barracks on $25,000 bail. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to police.
Mayanja’s next court date is May 1, the district attorney’s office said.
