A South Boston smoke shop owner and an employee illegally sold marijuana to undercover officers, police say
The arrests followed numerous complaints from the neighborhood, police said.
The owner and an employee of a South Boston smoke shop are facing charges after undercover police Monday bought marijuana joints being sold illegally at the store and seized dozens of bags of edibles, authorities said.
King Smoke Shop owner Tanveer Shah, 61, of Bellingham, and Saqib Imran, 38, of Brockton, were arrested following numerous complaints from the neighborhood about the allegedly illicit business, according to a statement from Boston police.
Detectives and drug control units decided to investigate the claims and ultimately bought marijuana while inside the store, officials said.
Shah and Imran were charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class D drug, the statement said. Shah faces an additional charge of intent to distribute a Class C drug for tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.
Through a search warrant, authorities confiscated the illegal inventory, which included over 60 bags of edible marijuana candies, 26 “Moon Rock” marijuana candy containers, 95 marijuana joints, 67 vials of THC, and over $1,000 cash, according to police.
Both Shah and Imran were scheduled to be arraigned in South Boston District Court on Tuesday.
