Two New Bedford men allegedly got into an argument over music volume early Sunday morning. Now one of them is dead, and the other is facing a murder charge related to his stabbing death.William Macomber, 55, was

arrested later that morning after police found him in a car parked on Shawmut Avenue, The Boston Globe reports. He was arraigned in New Bedford District Court on Monday and ordered held without bail, according to SouthCoast Today.

Macomber was reportedly renting a room in the same home as the victim — Steven Doyle, 27 — at 291 Emerson St.

Macomber allegedly had a knife and said he wanted Doyle to turn down the music. He alleges Doyle then knocked down the door of his room and assaulted him, SouthCoast Today reports. Macomber says he held the knife against his own chest and pointed the blade outward toward Doyle. While Macomber laid in bed, he says Doyle jumped on him and that’s when Doyle was stabbed in the chest.

Doyle reportedly ran from the room and fell to the kitchen floor, the knife still stuck in his chest, according to SouthCoast Today. It was at 12:05 a.m. that someone called 911, MassLive reports. Doyle was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital and pronounced dead.

A police report says Macomber told authorities he acted in self defense. A prosecutor said in court that Macomber had sent a text message to someone just before the stabbing saying he had a knife and threatening to stab Doyle, according to SouthCoast Today.
