Brockton man, 21, allegedly hits 71-year-old man in road rage incident

A 21-year-old Brockton man allegedly began hitting a 71-year-old man from Medford in the face in a reported road rage incident around noon on Wednesday in Easton, according to police. Joseph Rivard faces charges of assault and battery on someone over the age of 60 and disturbing the peace, police said. He was arraigned Wednesday in Taunton District Court and released Thursday with conditions after a dangerousness hearing.Police spoke with the 71-year-old victim at the North Easton Savings Bank at 547 Washington St.Both motorists were heading westbound on Belmont Street when Rivard allegedly attempted to pass the victim’s vehicle. The two vehicles swiped together, and there was minor damage, police said.Rivard allegedly followed the victim to the bank parking lot where the altercation began. Rivard began hitting the victim’s vehicle with his fists, police said, before striking the victim in the face several times. The victim fought back, and Rivard stopped, police said.Paramedics treated the victim for cuts on his face, according to authorities.
