Man accused of shooting his estranged wife to death in Everett held without bail

The Peabody man accused of shooting his estranged wife to death in Everett Wednesday morning is being held without bail.Emilio Matarazzo, 55, pleaded not guilty to murder in Malden District Court Thursday morning, according to The Boston Globe. He’s accused of shooting his wife, Ersilia Cataldo Matarazzo, 50, multiple times while she sat in a vehicle in the driveway of her parents’ home on Central Avenue. Emilio Matarazzo turned himself into authorities around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, less than two hours after officials were called to the scene at 8:40 a.m. for a report of shots fired. He didn’t have a prior criminal record, the Globe reports. The husband and wife, who had three adult children, were reportedly going through divorce proceedings, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Wednesday afternoon.Ersilia Cataldo Matarazzo is a second cousin to Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria and sat on the city’s Board of Assessors, police Chief Steven Mazzie said.In court, officials said Emilio Matarazzo recently sent his wife gifts, including a check for $20,000, but she returned them.He’s scheduled to return to court in January.
