Man, teen charged in assault, attempted robbery at Dorchester 7-Eleven

One store employee was hit in the head with a bottle of iced tea and another fought off a suspect who tried to stab him multiple times, authorities said.

A 23-year-old man and a teenager are facing multiple assault charges after they allegedly attempted to rob a Dorchester 7-Eleven early Saturday morning. One of them tried to stab a store employee with a knife during the incident, police said.

Johenmie Garcia, of Jamaica Plain, and an unidentified 14-year-old Dorchester boy were arrested following the altercation at the 187 East Cottage St. store, according to a statement from Boston police.

Officers responded at 12:06 a.m. to a radio call for an armed robbery and on arrival found a store employee who told them two males had “entered the store and demanded the cash from the register,” the statement said.

“Refusing, the victim stated one (of) the suspects then threw a bottle of iced tea at the victim, striking him in the face,” officials said. “The victim stated the suspects then fled the store before re-entering and attempting to stab his coworker.”

The other victim told authorities one of the two suspects walked behind the store’s counter and tried to stab him several times, according to the statement. The employee was able to fend off his alleged attacker’s jabs by using a trash can.

Officers then found and arrested Garcia and the boy. Garcia is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, unarmed assault to rob, and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, authorities said. The juvenile faces charges of assault by means of a dangerous weapon and attempted armed robbery.
