New Hampshire authorities say an estranged husband shot and killed his wife and her boyfriend — and then himself
"Law enforcement officials are confident that Kevin Moran is the person who shot and killed Kris Dube and Kathleen Moran," a statement from the state's attorney general's office said.
New Hampshire authorities believe an estranged husband of a woman shot alongside her boyfriend in a Wolfeboro home last month is responsible for their murders. He committed suicide this week, according to the state’s attorney general’s office.
Kevin Moran, 41, of Ossipee, shot and killed himself Wednesday inside a vehicle at his home as police had centered their investigation into the Oct. 21 attack on Kathleen Moran, 36, and Kris Dube, 36, on him as the suspect, Attorney General Gordon MacDonald announced in a statement Friday.
Officials said Kevin Moran became a suspect soon after they found Kathleen Moran and Dube shot inside their 10 Lakeview Drive home.
Dube was pronounced dead at the scene. Kathleen Moran was brought to a hospital where she later died, according to authorities, who said autopsies on both “confirmed that they were victims of a homicide.”
An investigation into Kevin Moran as a suspect showed he was unhappy with Kathleen Moran’s relationship with Dube and that he had threatened the couple before, the statement said.
“The next day after the murders, Mr. Moran checked himself into a hospital and remained hospitalized until Tuesday, October 30, 2018,” the statement said. “During that time, Mr. Moran was aware that the homicide investigation had made significant progress and was focused on him as the suspect.”
Authorities said Kevin Moran messaged family members on Wednesday evening before he killed himself outside his home. An autopsy conducted Thursday afternoon confirmed that he died from a single gunshot wound by suicide, according to officials.
“Based on the physical evidence collected during the investigation, phone records, and interviews, law enforcement officials are confident that Kevin Moran is the person who shot and killed Kris Dube and Kathleen Moran,” the attorney general’s office said in its statement.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available, officials said.
