A New Hampshire man allegedly struck a pedestrian after he overdosed behind the wheel
Matthew Pike, 24, of Northfield, passed out while driving in Manchester, police said.
A pedestrian in Manchester, New Hampshire, suffered serious injuries after a Northfield man allegedly crashed into him upon overdosing on heroin while he was driving, police said.
Matthew Pike, 24, passed out while driving his 2004 Infinity vehicle before he hit a 30-year-old man on Bedford Street around 4:35 p.m. Thursday, the Manchester Police Department said in a statement.
The victim, who suffered serious but nonlife-threatening injuries to his hip, was pinned between a tree and the vehicle near Pleasant Street, police said. He was brought to a nearby hospital and remained there overnight.
Pike was given the overdose-reversing drug, Narcan, and was revived by first responders before he was arrested, according to authorities, who said a small amount of heroin was found with him.
Pike faces charges of reckless conduct, possession of a controlled drug, operating under the influence of drugs, and was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Merrimack County, police said.
He was scheduled to appear in Hillsborough County Superior Court North on Friday.
