Chelsea police obtain warrants for 22 suspected drug dealers

Police focused on Bellingham Square and surrounding neighborhoods.

Twenty-two alleged drug dealers are facing charges after a three-month undercover effort Chelsea police are calling “Operation Clean Sweep.”Officers arrested several people in Bellingham Square on Thursday morning on warrants based on suspected heroin and cocaine sales, police said.Warrants are out for the remaining suspects, and Chelsea investigators say they’re “confident” the others will be found. The operation included the city’s neighborhoods and downtown.”This operation is an important piece in our all-encompassing effort to continue our progress in rejuvenating the downtown business area,” Police Chief Brian Kyes said in a statement. “Our officers will continue to prioritize enforcement, community policing and to work with our partners to guide individuals suffering from addiction into treatment.”The operation focused on Bellingham Square and the surrounding area, police said. They used evidence of drug deals made between suspects and undercover police officers.State police and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, plus police from Winthrop and Revere, helped with the operation, police said.
