A woman threw soup in a Newton restaurant owner’s face, reportedly over a spoon

The 64-year-old is facing an assault and battery charge.

The owner of the New England Soup Factory in Newton had hot soup thrown in her face Monday by a distraught customer. The reason? The customer didn’t receive a spoon to go with her soup sample, according to reports. The restaurant’s owner, Marjorie Druker, told CBS Boston the woman didn’t like the size of her sandwich so she offered her soup samples to go with it.  “I had been dealing with her for maybe about seven minutes and I just didn’t feel a good energy,” Druker said.Emily Brophy, Druker’s daughter who also works at the eatery, told 7News the woman then asked for a spoon with her sample, and Druker said the restaurant doesn’t give spoons with samples. That’s when the customer reportedly threw the soup in Druker’s face, all caught on surveillance footage.

“She just threw it right in my face,” Druker told 7News. “I wasn’t expecting it.”

An employee was able to grab a photo of the back of the woman’s vehicle, the station reported. The woman, 64, is facing an assault and battery charge.

Druker wasn’t injured, she told CBS Boston.

“I ran over because I just heard yelling from the other side of the restaurant,” Brophy told 7News. “But when I saw soup on her face, you just automatically think the worst.”
